28th, 29th. The city gates are shut. People are being arrested in the streets if they are not carrying a carte de civisme,1 and many people are being sent to the city’s prisons.

Summary

The duchess notes the new security measures being implemented by the authorities and their impact on Parisians. This entry comes from the section of the Elbeuf manuscript comprising short daily entries rather than the much longer letter entries found earlier in the notebook series.
