Jacques de Flesselles

Monsieur de Flesselles was made Provost of Merchants for the city of Paris in April 1789. Three months later he was shot dead and decapitated during the protests of 14 July 1789. The post of Provost of Merchants was replaced by a Revolutionary role—mayor of Paris—the very next day. The first person to hold that position was Jean-Sylvain Bailly.
