Empress Maria Theresa
Maria Theresa was Holy Roman Empress for forty years (1740-1780) and a devout Catholic. Her youngest daughter was Marie-Antoinette, who was married to the future king Louis XVI of France in 1770 in a bid to strengthen a relatively new alliance between Austria and France (the Diplomatic Revolution of 1756).
