A leader of the enragés, a faction within the Parisian popular movement notorious for its extreme positions on wealth redistribution and the punishment of hoarders and monopolists. He was one of the organisers of the insurrection of 31 May-2 June 1793, which ended with the purge of the Girondins from the National Convention.
