Place du Carrousel
A public square adjoining the Tuileries royal palace in central Paris. The guillotine mainly operated here until mid-May 1793. The duchess lived on this square in the Hôtel d’Elbeuf, and the majority of the Letters featured in this database were written here. See also the map of Paris in ‘Resources’.
